Description

Tissue-type Plasminogen Activator (tPA) is a serine protease that plays a critical role in the fibrinolysis process. It catalyzes the conversion of plasminogen into plasmin, the enzyme responsible for degrading fibrin clots. Primarily synthesized and secreted by endothelial cells, tPA acts locally at sites of blood clot formation to facilitate clot dissolution. As a key enzyme, tPA is essential for maintaining the equilibrium between blood clot formation and breakdown. Dysregulation of tPA activity is often implicated in thrombotic or hemorrhagic disorders, highlighting its importance in vascular homeostasis.
