Description

Triiodothyronine (T3) is a triiodinated derivative of tyrosine. A small portion of T3 is directly synthesized by the thyroid gland, while the majority is generated through the deiodination of thyroxine (T4) in peripheral tissues. In the bloodstream, a minor fraction of T3 remains in its free form, referred to as FT3, while the majority binds to thyroid-binding proteins. The total T3 (TT3) represents the combined concentration of both free and bound forms. To measure TT3, the releasing agent 8-anilino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid (ANS) is employed to dissociate T3 from its binding proteins, converting it into free T3 for accurate detection.
