Description
The fragment crystallizable (Fc) region is the tail portion of an antibody that interacts with cell surface receptors known as Fc receptors, as well as certain proteins in the complement system. This region enables antibodies to activate the immune system, such as by binding to Fc receptors. Through its binding to various cell receptors and complement proteins, the Fc region mediates a range of physiological effects of antibodies, including the detection of opsonized particles, cell lysis, and the degranulation of mast cells, basophils, and eosinophils, among other processes.
