Description

Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) is expressed in neutrophils and epithelial cells of various tissues and organs, including renal tubules. Under normal conditions, NGAL maintains low levels in urine and blood. However, during kidney injury, NGAL expression is significantly upregulated and released into body fluids. As a result, NGAL is recognized as a novel biochemical marker for early renal injury. The measurement of NGAL levels can reflect the severity of acute kidney injury, with the sensitivity of the NGAL assay showing significant differences (P<0.001).
