Description
FOXL2 is a transcription factor belonging to the forkhead box (FOX) superfamily, distinguished by its forkhead box/winged-helix DNA-binding domain. This factor is crucial for ovarian development and function. In postnatal ovaries, FOXL2 regulates the differentiation of granulosa cells and supports the growth of pre-ovulatory follicles during adulthood. Additionally, FOXL2 prevents testis formation by suppressing the expression of SOX9. In mice, FOXL2 is also expressed in pituitary cells, where it is necessary for the expression of FSH.
