Description

L-Alanyl-L-glutamine is an essential supplement for cell culture. Free amino acid L-glutamine is unstable and usually degrades into pyroglutamate. Acetyl-L-glutamine (Ala-Gln) and glycyl-L-glutamine (Gly-Gln) are used in cell culture as alternative forms of stabilized L-glutamine. The main advantage of using L-alanyl-glutamine instead of L-glutamine is that it reduces the levels of ammonia generated during the cell culture process.

L-Alanyl-L-glutamine is a widely used substitute supplement for L-glutamine in biopharmaceutical production. It also acts as an antioxidant (peroxide) and anti-apoptotic (induced by LPS, etc.) agent. L-Alanyl-L-glutamine has been used in the study of injury and sepsis, as well as the impact of radiation on in vivo leucine and protein metabolism. L-Alanyl-L-glutamine has also been used in the study of extracellular polymorphonuclear leukocytes and myeloperoxidase activity.
