Description

Chitinase 3-like protein 1 (CHI3L1) is a monomeric glycosylated protein composed of 383 amino acids with a molecular weight of 42.6 kDa, belonging to the glycosyl hydrolase family. While it can bind to chitin, it lacks chitinase enzymatic activity. CHI3L1 plays a significant role in inflammation and tissue remodeling. Elevated serum levels of CHI3L1 have been observed in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis (Johansen, J. S., et al., 2000). Furthermore, studies by Kamal et al. have demonstrated that blood levels of CHI3L1 are associated with chronic hepatitis C virus infection and liver fibrosis (Kamal, et al., 2006).
