Description

Antithrombin III (AT III) is a plasma protein and a pivotal member of the anticoagulant system. It plays an essential role in anticoagulation by inhibiting the activity of thrombin and other coagulation factors, thereby regulating the body's coagulation system and preventing thrombus formation. The primary function of AT III is to bind to coagulation factors during the clotting process, effectively inhibiting thrombus formation and halting the progression of coagulation reactions. Abnormal levels of AT III are often linked to thrombotic disorders or bleeding tendencies, making it a critical biomarker for assessing coagulation function and the risk of thrombosis.
