On December 21, the microalgae biosynthesis startup Protoga Biotech announced the completion of tens of millions of yuan pre-A round of financing.
As an important photosynthetic chassis cell, microalgae can synthesize complex substances by using CO2 and sunlight. It has low-cost advantages in biological manufacturing and great potential for production and application. Starting from the commercial application scenario of microalgae, Protoga Biotech continues to develop efficient engineered algae strains and production processes and uses industrial production to replace the traditional agricultural cultivation of microalgae.
Protoga Biotech team has unique knowledge and rich experience in microalgae synthetic biology technology and large-scale production. Microalgae-based raw materials can be used as additives in food, health products, and cosmetics, and the tolerance of harmful substances is very low. The production of microalgae-based raw materials in a closed and parameter controllable environment makes it easier to expand the production scale, reduce the production cost and improve the product quality.
Protoga Biotech has completed the construction of the microalgae biosynthesis R&D center and will complete the construction of the pilot production base next year. A variety of microalgae-based raw materials will also be available next year. This round of funds is mainly used for the construction of an automatic production platform and the expansion of the product pipeline, so as to further improve the development speed and market competitiveness of Protoga Biotech.
