DigiCodon, a Chinese synbio startup focusing on the development of DNA data storage technology, has recently completed tens of millions of yuan of the pre-A round of financing.
DigiCodon, founded in 2021, is the first startup in China that focuses on the development of DNA data storage technology. Based on the in-depth understanding of synthetic biology and data storage, the DigiCodon team excavated the intersection of information technology and the underlying logic of synthetic biology, and creatively developed a new DNA data storage technology. Various types of data, including words, pictures, sounds, etc., are transformed into DNA sequences through unique coding algorithms.
Because DNA has outstanding advantages such as high storage density and high stability and has the characteristics of long storage time and low maintenance cost, it directly hits the pain point of existing data storage. The DigiCodon founding team creatively used synthetic biology methods to subvert data writing, developed a new DNA storage technology, and took the lead in applying it to the field of cold data storage, in order to break through and solve many problems in the field of data storage step by step.
In fact, DNA data storage technology is still a "new species". Previously, this innovative technology has gone through more than half a century from theory to concept verification. In recent years, thanks to the rapid development of DNA synthesis and sequencing, DNA data storage technology has also developed rapidly to the stage of commercialization. At present, the feasibility of the DigiCodon team's DNA storage technology has been preliminarily verified and the team is now focusing on the development of end-to-end automated DNA storage devices.
